Abstract

The foreseeable QoS (Quality of Service) demands are proportional to the issues involved in the working of the systems in question, in all fields concerned. Therefore, monitoring the correct operation of a complex system, of its components, their working, their slightest temporary failures, their serious failures or their response times, implies different degrees of criticality depending on the category, for example:

  • Electronics embedded in an airframe or airplane engine
  • Operation of a high speed rail link, in normal conditions, or even in a degraded situation following breakdown of a locomotive or points failure
  • Operation of a regional automatic teller network during a long week-end in the tourist high season
  • A marketing targets counting application

The management and measurement of the quality of service provided by a system are themselves technical components located at the very heart of the operation of the system concerned, insofar as they provide us with:

  • A permanent diagnosis of the system's "health"
  • The ability to manage closely the resources needed for system "correction" or "operational reconditioning"
  • The ability to assess the contribution of the various components to the correct or incorrect functioning observed

This white paper will help you to understand the different challenges of Quality of Service and how OpenMaster can help you to solve them.
