T-Mobile
The company
T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom Mobilnet GmbH) the mobile phone operator began to operate its NUSS (night concentration support system) to survey the T-D1 network during the second half of 1999. NUSS is based on OpenMaster for Telecom.
The T-D1 mobile phone network is a multi-vendor network with radio and switching-oriented network components from leading manufacturers such as Motorola, Alcatel, Siemens, and Lucent, each having manufacturer-specific management platforms.
The critical issue
The overall objective of the project was to assure the same quality of service in the context of a fast-growing number of subscribers. The critical issue was to optimize operations while managing heterogeneous radio networks and protect the investment for 3G wireless.
The solution
This was achieved by supporting the network operation with a manufacturer-independent management solution based on OpenMaster for Telecom that provides fast recognition of element faults and performance problems, tracking of fault correction activities and data for customer care functions.
There are ten regional sites that operate the D1-Network during normal working hours. Outside normal working hours the network is supervised by a central site, the "night concentration (NKO)." The priority of network supervision is then to keep the T-D1-network components and their interconnections operational, thus assuring the availability and quality of services used by the customer.
The Evidian difference
With the help of OpenMaster for Telecom, its integration with the NPR performance monitoring system by Metrica, the T-D1-Network database, the ARS trouble ticketing system from Remedy, the WatchMark Pilot GIS component from WatchMark Inc., and a complex hierarchy of management systems, T-Mobile is able to supervise the entire German mobile phone network infrastructure outside normal working hours.
The NKO support system (NUSS) with its information model is compliant with International ITU standards and delivers an element-provider-independent network view. Generic management applications are using this information model implemented by OpenMaster for Telecom to offer a uniform view of network data to the user.
