OpenMaster for Telecom case studies
Orange (France Telecom Mobiles)
The company
Orange (France Telecom Mobiles) is the leading GSM in France, with 15 million subscribers.
The mobile phone network is a multi-vendor network with radio and switching-oriented network components from leading manufacturers such as Motorola, Alcatel, and Nortel, each having manufacturer-specific management platforms.
The critical issue
The problem that confronted France Telecom was the need to supervise many different kinds of network equipment supplied by different manufacturers Some had their own supervision systems, spread over a number of national and regional locations, others had to be managed directly.
France Telecom did not want to invest heavily or use their valuable R&D funds in developing new technologies, but rather wanted to use an off-the-shelf management platform requiring only limited customization to their particular needs. France Telecom had previously worked with Bull and Audilog, a specialist in the management of systems and a network integrator, and renewed its confidence with them to fulfill the requirements of a supervision tool to manage the BSS (Base Sub System) of their Itineris network.
The solution
The tool selected is called CESAR (Center National de Supervision du Radiotéléphone) and has been entirely implemented by Audilog using OpenMaster as its management base. The combined solution of CESAR and OpenMaster provides fault management of all their equipment from suppliers such as Alcatel MCD, Nortel Matra Cellular (NMC) and Motorola to offer an ergonomic, coherent and homogeneous system to its users.
The Evidian difference
France Telecom chose the Audilog - OpenMaster solution because it met its business and technological objectives providing the "off the shelf" solution and conformance to existing and emerging standards in the TMN environment, ready to manage new systems as they become available.
