OpenMaster SLM OS management: All systems go!
One-point system management
OpenMaster SLM allows you to consolidate operating system management for multiple servers.
Typically, for an individual system, you will:
- Monitor performance and availability indicators such as CPU usage, number of processes and free space per volume
- Set the threshold values for automatic alarms: for example, when a disk volume is 80% full
- Modify parameters as needed: for example, increase the capacity of a disk volume
OpenMaster's animated management trees mean that you can organize monitoring and control to suit the scale of your operations. In a medium-sized company, for instance, you might organize each system icon directly under the business functions it supports. In a larger company you could add technical trees to allow Unix and Windows specialists to manage systems they know best.
In the second case, you could use role-based management to assign operational rights. Typically, the managers responsible for business-level functions would see alerts and could drill down to analyze problems, but only the system-level operators could perform certain changes.
Associated options
Operating system management for UNIX and Windows is such a fundamental requirement that it is included in the basic OpenMaster SLM package. The Production Governor options allow you to add specific functions that you may need:
- Pilot provides remote operations management, essentially allowing you to concentrate console operations for remote systems on the OpenMaster workstations
- Job Scheduler automates the management of batch workloads on UNIX, VAX/VMS, AS/400, and GCOS 8 servers
- System Performance provides a unified and consistent way to measure and tune the performance of remote systems
