The purpose of a mobile telecommunications infrastructure is to enable an individual, regardless of where he or she is, to use as light a mobile phone as possible to contact his or her correspondent as simply as possible, by the largest possible number of means (voice, SMS, photo, image, ...). This infrastructure generally has the characteristics of complex systems:
- "Business criticality"
- Technical complexity
- Network size.
The OSS systems are responsible for keeping the infrastructure at its optimum operating level. They cover the supervision, configuration and accounting functions for the telecommunication flows and equipment, networks and services.

These applications, which interact with the network infrastructure, generate risks for the service provided to the end-user.
Support systems identity management and access control is a key element in ensuring that the infrastructure is kept in good working condition. This domain, called IAM (Identity and Access Management), covers four main areas: identity management, user provisioning, control of access to applications and user authentication.
